A spacious indoor learning center with areas like Housekeeping and Drama, Science and Discovery, and Blocks and Transportation surrounds our classrooms. These print-rich spaces support Language and Literacy, Creative Expression, and Manipulatives—providing endless opportunities for children to develop vital skills. Here, children engage in painting, gardening, woodworking, and music, allowing them to explore their interests while building their fine motor and sensory-motor abilities.
Our science and math centers offer tools like microscopes, books, and school pets to spark curiosity. Children are encouraged to estimate, predict, and explore their world, building a solid foundation for critical thinking. In dramatic play, students dress up, put on puppet shows, and perform plays, which helps improve communication and creativity.
At Rainbow Academy, we understand the importance of early literacy. Our emerging literacy and language program introduces children to oral and visual print concepts in a fun and engaging manner. Our pre-kindergarten classes utilize the Handwriting Without Tears curriculum to make writing enjoyable for young learners. Additionally, computers are available for students to play educational games, send e-mails to parents, and print stories, offering a balanced introduction to technology.
Our curriculum also emphasizes the growth of social-emotional skills through our unique Kindness Curriculum. This includes daily morning and afternoon meetings, where children learn to communicate effectively, show empathy, and appreciate the diversity of their peers. At Rainbow Academy, we foster a warm and inclusive atmosphere where children with special needs thrive alongside their peers.
The Rainbow Academy curriculum is grounded in the philosophies of David Elkind, Maria Montessori, Stanley Greenspan, Howard Gardner, and Lev Vygotsky. These theories are brought to life through our adherence to the Pennsylvania Learning Standards and the high standards set by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC). We're proud to be licensed by the Pennsylvania Department of Education, ensuring our educational programs meet the highest quality standards.
We believe that parents are essential partners in their child's education. At Rainbow Academy, families are encouraged to be actively involved by sharing their careers, cultures, and experiences with the class or joining us for particular activities. Every month, we send home a copy of the developmental goals for each age group so parents can extend the learning experience at home.
Our commitment to diversity means that children of all abilities are welcome at Rainbow Academy. With a small staff-to-child ratio, we can tailor our teaching methods to meet each child's unique needs while nurturing their strengths.
